Connect Fort Bend was established to sustain the well-being and vibrancy of communities in Fort Bend County. It will provide a wide range of community-based services for the diverse population of Fort Bend. Through collaborations, Connect Fort Bend will provide opportunities for Fort Bend residents to reach their full potential. The focus is to ensure children/youth develop skills and abilities and have the support to contribute positively to society and become healthy adults.
The concept of establishing Connect Fort Bend nonprofit began after the Founding Board Chair participated in the Satcher Health Leadership Institute’s Health Communities Program Initiative at Morehouse School of Medicine in May 2018. The three-day training provided an opportunity for in-depth exploration of the social determinants of health and tools and resources for staff of community-based organizations and local government to address health disparities and improve community well-being. Realizing the population changes in Fort Bend County, the Founding Board Chair began efforts to establish an entity that would connect and/or provide social services to meet the changing socio-economic demographics in Fort Bend.
The organization was chartered in September 12, 2019, with plans to implement youth activities in Spring Semester 2020. With the COVID pandemic cases rising January 2020 to eventually stay-at-home orders March 2020, activation of Connect Fort Bend’s 4 H club at Christie McAuliffe was delayed. Fort Bend ISD’s COVID safety protocols prevented engagement with McAuliffe students in school years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. However, Spring 2021, Connect Fort Bend provided student achievement items for 160 eighth graders at Fort Bend ISD’s McAuliffe Middle School.
